Tigua paintings and their textile applications

Abstract

This article addresses the revaluation of Tigua paintings through an in-depth analysis of their most representative elements, using the Edwin Panofsky method. The paintings, which reflect the indigenous worldview and daily life of the Tigua community, have been subjected to an iconological analysis to identify the meanings and symbolism present in their designs. Based on this analysis, textile meshes have been developed that incorporate these visual elements, adapting them to the contemporary context of textile design. The reinterpretation of Tigua paintings in textiles, such as cotton, wool, and denim, has successfully fused tradition and modernity, creating innovative proposals that not only preserve the cultural identity of the region but also generate new economic opportunities for indigenous communities. Through this process, traditional Tigua art has been revalued, giving it new value in the globalized arena and positioning its visual elements in local and international markets, contributing to the dissemination and celebration of Andean culture.
