Instant messaging application for mobile devices based on Full Duplex communication

Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze the operation of full duplex communication between mobile devices for the exchange of text messages. For this purpose, an application has been developed in the Android Studio development environment using the Java programming language for Android systems whose basic function is to send messages between devices via Wi-Fi. The developed system is based on the classic client-server model, in which the mobile devices act as a client and connects to the Firebase database that acts as a server, which receives the messages from the sender device and sends the message to the destination device. The system follows the design lines of today's most common messaging applications in which messages are organized in a progressive manner, with the most recent messages going to the end of the conversation so that the user can see the most recent messages first. In this application the user can communicate with other users who are registered in the application.
