Abstract

In the last decades, the production of embryos in vivo and in vitro have revolutionized cattle breeding, which allowed to obtain advances in genetic improvement, which, in fact, these techniques were carried out in other zootechnical species. Both techniques are fundamental to evaluate the quality and viability of embryos in cattle. The in vivo technique is carried out in four phases in the reproductive tract of the cow, which are: super-stimulation, insemination, development and collection. Unlike the in vivo technique, in the in vitro production, the oocytes are collected from the cow, after which laboratory facilities are required to carry out maturation, fertilization and culture. This article has theoretical support from the various scientific databases, as well as the management and selection of key documents. It is expected that the results of this research will provide solid information on the differences between in vivo and in vitro embryo production techniques in bovines and, in this way, will allow knowing the advantages and disadvantages of biotechnologies in assisted reproduction programs.
