Abstract

This research explores the significance of symbolic play in the acquisition of mathematical skills in early childhood. Through a descriptive-comparative analysis, previous studies published between 2020 and 2024 are examined, focusing on how symbolic play influences the development of mathematical competencies in children. Common patterns and divergent approaches are identified, evaluating the impact of symbolic play on skills such as logical reasoning, problem-solving, and numerical understanding. Symbolic play is presented as a key pedagogical tool that, by integrating creativity and fantasy, fosters the development of cognitive and socio-emotional skills essential for mathematical learning. Furthermore, the research highlights that the use of didactic games and structured play activities can significantly improve students' mathematical attitudes and competencies from an early age. The findings can contribute to the design of innovative pedagogical practices that promote more active and meaningful mathematics learning in early childhood education.
