Abstract

Obesity has maintained an increase in morbidity and mortality with 2.8 million deaths per year due to associated pathologies. It is estimated that in 2030 about 50% of the world population will be overweight or obese, epidemic figures that represent a serious public health problem worldwide. A pilot study was carried out with the objective of designing and validating a questionnaire to determine the association of obesity with chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCD) in health personnel. With the items, it was possible to obtain demographic, anthropometric, body mass index, and CNCD data. It was subjected to validation by experts who assigned the value of very reliable to all the items, allowing the relationship between obesity and NCDs to be established. In the data collected from the pilot study, 15% presented NCDs, all of them overweight or obese, being 21% of this group. The instrument allows the comparison of the results with those obtained in world studies, which will allow the design of preventive strategies adapted to the country's reality. We suggest continuing to investigate obesity and associated NCDs using the instrument as a standard methodological tool.
