Productive sustainability and road accessibility of silvopastoral systems with cultivated pastures in Manabí

The study evaluated the road accessibility of silvopastoral systems with cultivated pastures in the province of Manabí, aiming to relate the distance of these areas to the main road network with animal nutrition logistics and productive sustainability. Spatial analysis in ArcGIS was applied to identify and delimit polygons of cultivated pastures and silvopastoral systems, as well as their proximity to main roads. Results showed that 45% of pasture blocks were located within the first 4 km, with a decreasing distribution as distance increased, although a significant presence remained beyond 7 km. This pattern confirmed that road accessibility was a key factor for the location of productive areas, but agroecological conditions and the extensive nature of livestock production also influenced their distribution. In conclusion, strengthening road connectivity and promoting adaptive management technologies in remote areas is essential to consolidate sustainable, competitive, and resilient livestock systems.
