Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the compressive strength of concrete with the incorporation of agro-industrial waste: peanut shells, eggshells, and rice husks, previously crushed and sieved. A reference concrete mix with a compressive strength of 210 kg/cm² was prepared based on the regulatory guidelines established by ACI 211.1, carrying out separate samples using the same reference mix design and applying each material with a 10% substitution in relation to the weight of the cement. The properties of the stone aggregates were determined using the regulatory processes detailed by the Ecuadorian Institute of Standardization (INEN). The slump of each dosed mixture was analyzed, allowing the behavior of the concrete in its fresh state, noting a reduction in workability as well as a slight increase in it. The test specimens were cylindrical samples subjected to loading at test ages of 7, 14, and 28 days, to determine the compressive strength. The results obtained show a reduction in the mechanical strength of the concrete, taking as a reference the standard concrete dosage, without interfering with the hydration of the cement. The use of this waste reduces cement consumption, mitigates the environmental impact, and is suitable for non-structural elements.
