Urinary tract infection associated with bacteriuria in older adults
Abstract
Infections originating in the urinary tract are an inflammatory response of the urothelium towards bacterial invasion, generally associated with bacteriuria and pyuria, symptomatic or asymptomatic. Urinary tract infections are usually caused by E. coli, which is present in the digestive tract and on the skin around the vaginal and rectal areas. Bacteria can enter the urethra in different ways, including sexual intercourse, where bacteria from the vaginal area can be pushed into the urethra and end up, over time, in the bladder, where urine creates a suitable environment for the growth of bacteria. The objective of the research is to establish the association between urinary tract infections and bacteriuria in older adults. A relevant literary search was carried out on the subject to be treated. In order to obtain this information, search engines such as Pubmed, Google Scholar, Dialnet, Scielo, Redalyc, ELSEVIER and Medigraphic were used. These articles were found in languages such as English, Spanish and Portuguese. Among the causes found in the study are the shorter urethra, urinary tract stones, diabetes mellitus, transurethral resection of the prostate.
