Abstract

The tuna industry requires highly reliable equipment to guarantee the quality, safety, and continuity of production processes, with can-sealing machines being a critical element in the canning stage. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the importance of can-sealing machines as strategic equipment in the Manta tuna industry, evaluating their influence on operational efficiency, product quality, and the safety of the canning process. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design, complemented by a qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews. Data collection involved a structured survey administered to production and maintenance personnel, as well as interviews with technical area managers and direct observation of operations. The data were processed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The results showed a broad consensus that can-sealing machines are fundamental to guaranteeing the hermetic seal of the containers, preserving food safety, reducing operational failures, and ensuring production continuity. Furthermore, it was identified that preventive maintenance, periodic calibration, and monitoring of critical double-seal parameters are the main strategies for improving the reliability of this equipment. It is concluded that can-sealing machines represent strategic assets for the tuna industry, and their proper management significantly contributes to strengthening productivity, product quality, and business competitiveness.
