Effect of planting distance on the productivity of banana (Musa acuminata) Santa Elena – Ecuador

Abstract

The present research is related to evaluate the effect of planting spacing on banana (Musa acuminata) productivity at the Musatec farm, for this purpose the banana fruit characteristics (bunch weight, number of hands, caliber, length, ratio) of the banana crop in different planting frames were evaluated; the banana yield was estimated with different planting distances, and an evaluation of the production costs was carried out. The type of research used was descriptive with a qualitative approach in which parameters related to production were studied including number of bunches, number and weight of boxes, finger size, bunch size and ratio, and statistics. The data obtained were taken to an Excel spreadsheet where they were processed through a T-test study for paired samples, which was carried out in the statistical analysis program InfoStat. The evaluation of the variables under study, allowed to determine that statistically there is no significant difference between planting distances, when evaluating the production costs it was concluded that when the planting distance is greater, the costs decrease.
