Abstract

Nowadays, due to the great demand for the operation of Information Technology (IT) services, companies are forced to implement a more solid technological structure, such as server virtualization for high availability. The objective of this research was to develop an Open-Source virtual platform for the optimization of resources and administration of servers of the Basic Hospital of Jipijapa, making a comparison between the different existing virtualization tools, and through a critical analysis to select the most suitable for its implementation in the data center. Primary sources, articles and research reports were used to support its quantitative approach at a descriptive and field level. Its development describes the creation of a virtualization system using open-source tools to replace existing servers with a virtual server platform based on a resource rationalization scheme. Based on the results, the virtualization tool used was Proxmox Virtual Environment (PVE), a storage system with databases to store configuration files, and 83% of the respondents revealed that the implementation of a virtual environment provided by Proxmox VE, increased reliability, availability and user satisfaction, as well as the migration of servers, saved resources, reduced pollution and freed up physical space.
