Abstract

Serum creatine kinase CK is a cardiac enzyme that is secreted in the presence of cardiac injury or strenuous exercise. Older adults usually present various comorbidities, among the most common are cardiac complications, the usefulness of creatine kinase as a biomarker in the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction in this population has been studied. For this reason the present bibliographic work is posed as a research problem: Can serum creatine kinase be taken as a reliable biomarker for myocardial infarction in older adults? The work is a bibliographic review with a descriptive and documentary type methodology, in which data referring to the subject of study are taken from other academic works, for example, from scientific articles, reports, theses, etc. The results of the selected studies demonstrate the effectiveness of creatine kinase analysis and its elevated serum concentration as a reliable marker for detecting cardiac complications in older adults.
