Gestational diabetes is the most prevalent metabolic disorder during pregnancy. This research aimed to analyze systematically selected bibliographic evidence on dyslipidemia and its relationship with gestational diabetes. A descriptive documentary design was applied. The global prevalence of gestational diabetes was documented, with a frequency ranging from 1.0% to 49.5%; while the concentrations of serum lipids in the dyslipidemias of pregnant women with and without gestational diabetes demonstrated significantly higher triglyceride levels in women with gestational diabetes than in healthy pregnant women. The identification of risk factors for the development of dyslipidemias and diabetes was documented. That a history of preeclampsia and a family history of diabetes mellitus, obesity or high muscle mass index, arterial hypertension, smoking, and maternal age were the predisposing factors associated with the development of these pathologies and, to a lesser extent, the associated ethnogeographic and genetic risks. Gestational diabetes remains a major public health problem that must be addressed based on local conditions.
