Critical thinking for reading in an educational unit of the canton Pujilí, Province of Cotopaxi

Abstract

Teachers should apply new teaching strategies based on the critical thinking in the pedagogical process, which help to the communicative and cognitive skills development in order to break traditional shcemes. The objective of this research is to strengthen reading through strategies based on critical thinking in the fifth year of General Basic Education, located in la Matriz parish, Pujilí canton. The methodology was based on the interpretative approach and from this cualitative perspective allowed to understand the reality of the educative context because the search subjects’ meanings were interpreted. Its methodological design is focused on the content analysis because the descriptive analysis was made to define categories throug the information reduction. The inductive method was applied and the technique was the observation. The results of the application of the practical class about critical thinking for reading show the story as a teaching strategy that provides the opportunity to learn in a different way than the traditional one because it generates interest, motivation and curiosity for reading, al lof these aspects are directed to the develoment of reasoning abilities.
