Clean water and sanitation, a look at the fulfillment of sustainable Development Goal 6 in Jipijapa

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG) seeks to ensure the availability of water and its sustainable management, as well as sanitation for all; it also addresses the quality and sustainability of water resources, which are fundamental for the survival of people and the planet. The 2030 agenda, implemented by the United Nations (UN) in 2015, indicates that the goals are born as a means to make changes through a global alliance of developed and developing countries. For this reason, Ecuador, as a member of the agenda plays a fundamental role, since it is solely responsible for: planning and management of water resources for human consumption, irrigation to ensure food sovereignty, ecological flow, and productive activities in the country. The objective of this research is to analyze the current situation of Jipijapa canton in the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goal 6 Clean water and sanitation through the data reported by the central government of Ecuador; since the fulfillment of SDG 6 proposes a space for the improvement of living conditions of populations in terms of combating vulnerability, systematic poverty and especially to improve in terms of issues such as scarcity, water resource management and others.
