Abstract

The objective of this article was to identify the cultural significance and impact of El Danzante on cultural tourism and its context. To achieve this, we relied on a bibliographic research methodology that allowed us to better understand and interpret the tradition of El Danzante de Pujilí. A quantitative and qualitative investigation was carried out, arriving at the following conclusions: El Danzante de Pujilí is a character who represents the vibrant and deeply significant cultural heritage of Cotopaxi and Ecuador; its most attractive aspects are its deep history and cultural significance, the spectacular nature of its music and dance, and the colorfulness of its traditional costumes; the guardians of the tradition agree on the urgent need for greater promotion; the community of Pujilí is the heart and soul of the tradition, being the main guarantor of its preservation and generational transmission; and El Danzante de Pujilí is not just a dance; it is a profound and authentic cultural experience that has the potential to be a significant driver for tourism in Cotopaxi.
