Prevalence of liver cirrhosis in alcoholic patients in Ecuador

Abstract

Liver cirrhosis leads to a large amount of mortality and morbidity in the world, especially in our country, this disease constitutes from an inflammation to become severe cirrhosis, so is it is defined as an imprecise and irreversible alterations of the normal structure of the liver due to regeneration nodules and fibrosis, therefore, it is considered a chronic pathology that can occur due to consequences of various etiological factors. The main objective of the study was to establish the prevalence of liver cirrhosis in alcoholic patients in Ecuador, during the period 2018 to 2022. The present research is a literature review based on a descriptive, retrospective and non-experimental analysis, by collecting information from original scientific articles, review and repositories that are related to the topic of study, through the final selection of 30 articles published in the last 5 years, from databases such as: Google Scholar, Pubmed, Sciencedirect, Dialnet, organizations such as WHO and INEC. The most relevant results of the study according to various bibliographic sources established that cases of liver cirrhosis occurred with the harmful consumption of alcohol, followed by chronic viral disease and non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis. It is concluded that there was a high percentage of prevalence of liver cirrhosis in alcoholic patients in Ecuador, patients over 60 years of age, so this pathology was more common in the male sex than in the female sex.
